KOCHI, May 16: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal announced his party's decision to form a political alliance with Twenty20, a political outfit supported by the Kitex Group, the second-largest kids' apparel manufacturer in the world and the largest private-sector employer in Kerala.
Addressing a huge gathering of Twenty20 workers at Kizhakkambalam, the headquarters of the Twenty20 in the suburbs of Kochi, Kejriwal said "the AAP brought changes to Delhi, then to Punjab and now we will bring changes to Kerala."
Naming his party's allaince with Twenty20 as "People's Welfare Alliance (PWA), he said "Now Kerala has four political fronts, Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) , BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and AAP-led PWA."
Claiming that a honest government in Kerala can bring several welfare programmes for the benefit of common people in the State, Kejariwal who also listed out the Delhi Government's welfare measures, praised Twenty20 party president Sabu M Jacob for forming a party for not playing politics but for the welfare of the common people.
The Delhi Chief Minister's visit to Kochi gained political attention in view of upcoming Thrikkakkara Assembly by-election and media reports regarding a possible political alliance between AAP and Twenty20 in Kerala.
Kejriwal, who was accorded a rousing reception on his arrival here on Saturday by AAP workers, held talks with AAP leaders in Kerala on Sunday morning. He also visited Twenty20's food safety market and God's Villa at Kizhakambalam on Sunday evening.
Both, the AAP and the Twenty20 have not fielded their candidates or supported any political party in the Assembly bypoll this time. The bypoll to the Thrikkakara Assembly constituency will be held on May 31.
