Kashmiri Pandits are not 'stone throwers', force against them not justified: Farooq Abdullah
5/16/2022 11:14:28 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 16: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir Government ordered a probe on the use of force against the Pandits in Badgam, former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday said Pandits are not stone throwers and there was no need to use force against them.
“Kashmiri pandits were protesting peacefully, they were not throwing stones, as was told…We have never seen a Kashmiri Pandit throwing stones”, Abdullah told media persons here Monday.
He said, the Pandits were just protesting….what was the need to use force against them, he questioned.
He said using lathicharge and teargas shells against those who were just asking for the security to live peacefully and feel safe is not justified.
Abdullah said the main aim of the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration meeting with the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Sunday was to apprise him that the law and order situation is very bad and there is no peace prevailing in the Kashmir valley.
“If we are beating the drums that tourists are visiting in large numbers often, that is not the picture of peace and tranquility”, he said and added “people are getting killed daily, somewhere by police personnel and some where civilians”. Without blaming anyone, Abdullah said that Shoaib Ahmad Ganie of Trukwangam Shopian was killed when he was in a “hands up” position. He said the pandits are demanding to provide government accommodation for staying where they will feel safe. He said, we put all these issues and demands before the Lieutenant Governor and urged him to take appropriate steps for their safety.
“The Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) will provide every help to the authorities in prevailing the peace and tranquility in Kashmir valley”, Abdullah said.
Abdullah said Bollywood flick “The Kashmir files” spread hatred in the country and in the minds of Kashmiri youth. “How the makers of this film are thinking about us”, he questioned.
He termed the film a “blatant lie” which is spreading hatred among the communities in the country.
He alleged that the barbarism being used against the Muslims in India is developing hate in the minds of youth which needs to be closed.
He said the media which is spreading hatred among the people by one way or the other in the country should be banned once forever.
Abdullah said PAGD leaders are not being allowed to convey their condolences to the people who suffer in prevailing situations. “How can we come too close to the people if we are being kept house arrested”, he questioned.
