Multiple Govt offices put Kashmiri Pandits transfers in public domain; Probe likely

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 5: Not one but several government offices are feared to have put in public domain the transfer orders of the Kashmiri Pandits who were shifted to safer locations in the wake of the recent spike in “targeted killings” in the valley.
While the J&K administration recently ordered transfer of migrant employees to relatively safer locations in Kashmir following a spike in the targeted attacks, the administration’s decision to put these orders in public domain has raised concern among these employees.
While the victims apprehend that the making transfer orders public can risk their lives further, names of at least two government offices have some under scanner for putting the details in public domain.
While the Directorate of School Education subsequently removed the orders from its website, orders were also posted on the website of Rural Development Department before being removed, the Early Times learnt from the sources.
A senior official said they had no orders from the higher-ups not to make the transfer orders public.
“Our offices have are bound to make transfer orders public for transparency and if it was not to be done things should have been directed accordingly,” said an official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said in the wake of public outcry over the “leaking of sensitive information” in public domain, the administration is likely to order an inquiry.
Sources said the matter has come to the notice of the government and that an inquiry was being ordered to fix responsibility in the coming days.
“This is serious lapse and responsibility needs to be fixed,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
In the last few days, the administration has transferred hundreds of employees, appointed under the Prime Minister’s Relief and Rehabilitation package, to “safer locations” in Srinagar and other district headquarters in Kashmir.
Under pressure to show compliance of the administration’s directions to immediately transfer these employees, the Education Department and the Rural Development Department seemingly put these transfer orders on their websites.
