Tourism Directorate Jammu organises Devi Pindi Trek, Cleanliness Drive

REASI, June 29: The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu today organised a one day Trek and Cleanliness Drive from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Nursery, Panthal to Devi Pindi, situated in the Trikuta foothills and believed to be as equally important to Mata Vaishno Devi.
A group of more than 70 Trekkers, volunteers and bloggers was flagged off by Rajinder Mengi, DDC Panthal and Chander Mohan, BDC Panthal in presence of Angrez Singh, SDM Katra; Ambika Bali, Asst. Director Tourism Katra and Raies Akhter Mir, BDO Katra.
About 5 KM trek to the temple starts from a narrow stream flowing throughout the trek route. On this adventurous trek, there are a variety of flora and fauna making every sight delightful. Huge peaks and hillocks on the way promise to keep the journey magnificent. The surroundings are a visual treat, particularly for nature lovers. Enroute the trek special cleanliness drive was organised by the Tourism Department and the volunteers of Panthal Block. On the occasion SDM, Karta informed that the motive of organizing this Trekking and cleanliness drive is to promote Adventure Tourism in Katra and to divert the lakhs of pilgrims visiting the town to other destinations in and around Jammu and Katra in particular. This will also help in promoting the unexplored destinations of Jammu Division and will boost the economy of the area and generate employment opportunities for the host population. He also suggested that we should develop a habit to keep our surroundings neat and clean.
The Assistant Director Tourism asked the Trekkers to explore the nature while traversing through the area and also make the people aware about the cleanliness of the tourist destinations .She asked the bloggers to post the same in their blogs to promote the destination. She further informed that a series of Events & Adventure activities are in the pipeline in coming months which shall help in boosting tourism in the region.
