EARly Times Report

RAJOURI, June 29: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today kick-started work on blacktopping of Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote road.
Among others, DDC Member Rajouri, Sai Abdul Rashid; DDC Member Thanamandi, Abdul Qayom Mir; BDC Plangarh, Shamim Akhter; SDM Thanamandi, Vikas Dhar; AC Defence, Saleem Qureshi; Sarpanches, panches and public in large numbers were also present on the occasion. The Rajouri-Thanamandi Surankote road forms the vital road link in Pir Panjal region which connects the border district Rajouri to Mughal road and is maintained by the BRO.
Being the shortest route to Kashmir Valley, this road meets the historical Mughal road at Bafliaz in Poonch district. Hundreds of tourists and passenger vehicles and trucks take this road to enter Kashmir valley from Jammu and other parts of the country and vice versa.
The existing road is being widened and a two lane road would be constructed on it which would reduce the traffic congestion and also reduce the journey time. The road is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 284.22 crore.
While speaking on the occasion, the DDC congratulated the people of Thanamandi and asked the BRO to expedite the progress on the project for its completion within set timelines. He also asked them to maintain quality while executing the work on the project and also directed them to undertake regular field visits to monitor the progress on the project.
The DDC also asked the concerned officers to maintain interdepartmental coordination to resolve the issues impeding the execution of the project so that the developmental bottlenecks can be resolved timely for the larger public interest.
