GDC Udhampur organized One Day Seminar on National Statistics Day

JAMMU, June 29: In a series of programs under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav under the patronship of Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, the Department of Statistics of the College in collaboration with the IQAC organized a Seminar on National Statistics Day.
The Programme was done under the supervision of Dr. Ankush Bharti, HOD Statistics, and Prof. Gurvinder Raj Verma, Coordinator IQAC.
Prof. Babu Lal Thakur was the guest of honour, while Prof. Romesh Atri and Prof. Kamal Kishore were the special guests on the Occasion.
The program started with the welcoming of the guests by the Programme Coordinator Dr. Ankush Bharti, wherein she also apprised all present about Prof. Prashant Chandra Mahalanobis, his unparallel contribution to Indian Statistics and Economic Planning and deliberation on the theme of Data for Sustainable Development.
The Patron Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta in his message applauded the Department of Statistics for organising a meticulous programme and stressed increasing the role of Statistics and its understanding at large.
The Guest of honour Prof. Babu Lal Thakur congratulated the Department and the students for the seminar and also apprised all about the theme-based programme on Data for Sustainable Development of the Nation. He laid stress upon the adoption of the latest statistical tools and techniques to be relevant and tech-savvy today.
After the inaugural session, seven students from the Department of Statistics namely Sania, Rahat, Naina Anisha, Preeti, Sakshi and Monika spoke on the life and contribution of Prof. P.C Mahalanobis and also about the importance of the National Statistics Day as well as the roadmap to achieve the Data Matrix on Sustainable Development of India in the coming years.
The guests were felicitated with the saplings as a token of gratitude and green initiative of the college.
All the speakers were given the certificates of participation as well as gifts.
Dr. Pankaj Sharma, member IQAC tendered the vote of thanks on the occasion.
The programme was attended by Prof. Imtiaz Shahid, Prof. Jawaid Sarver, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Prof. Rakesh Singh and a number of students of the college.
About 170 people had registered for the event.
The entire programme was anchored by Miss Sania and Rahat.
