NC pays tributes to 'Madr-e- Meharban' on death anniversary

JAMMU, July 12: Floral tributes marked the observance of 22nd death anniversary of 'Madr-e-Meharban' Begum Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah at Sher -e- Kashmir Bhavan.
Addressing the gathering Provincial President Jammu Province Rattan Lal Gupta highlighted the achievements of Madr-e Meharban during her lifetime as member of Parliament and social worker. He said Madr-e - Meharban worked relentlessely towards female literacy and politico-economic empowerment of the people, especially women and down-trodden segments of society, irrespective of caste, creed , colour and religion.
History stands testimony to the glorious role played by Begum Sher-e- Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah to strengthen the bonds of amity and brotherhood between communities and regions, Gupta said, adding that a befitting tribute to Madr-e - Meharban would be to carve out a huge role for women in decision making and to bring them in the forefront to lead various disciplines.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Provincial Secretary Jammu Province, Brij Mohan Sharma Vice President, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri Ex-MLA, Vijay Lochan P.P SC Cell, Abdul Gani Teli P.P OBC Cell, Vijay Laxmi Dutta, Pardeep Bali, Swarn Latta Ex-MLA also paid tributes to Madr-e-Meharban, saying her role in socio- political empowerment of people in general and female literacy in particular will continue to work for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir.
While paying tributes to Madr-e- Meharban Satwant Kour Dogra Provincial President Women Wing Jammu said that her contributions during the political struggle of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after the arrest of Sher-e- Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah has been immense. Her role shall be remembered for the years to come. Real tributes to her shall be to continue the programmes which she left for the present generation, she added.
The programme was organized and chaired by Satwant Kour Dogra Provincial President Women Wing Jammu Province in which large number of women workers participated. The Districts of Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Rajouri, Surankote and other Districts headquarter have also paid tributes to Madr-e- Meharban.
Those who were present on this occasion included: Bushan Lal Bhat Ex-MLC, Nar Singh P.P Labor Wing, Daljeet Sharma,Shamim Begum DDC, Th. Yashu Vardhan Singh Additional spokesperson Jammu, Rashida Begum, Jatin Bhat, Farooq Mughal, Mohinder Kumar Rana, Rama Sambyal, Neena Devi, Ashu Rajput, Chanchla Devi, Sakutla Devi, Suman Devi, Som Raj Taroch, Nitish Gowsami and others.
