Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 12: Apni Party leader and former vice-chairman of JK Cements Er Nazir Ahmed Yatoo on Tuesday requested Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to intervene in the Charar-e-Sharif mosque issue.
Talking to Early Times, Yatoo said, “The mosque built adjacent to the shrine at a whooping cost of Rs 34 crore has developed serious technical snags due to inefficiency of executing agency JKPCC.”
He said, “A task force was convened by the Waqf Board a few years ago and it had advised against conducting any full occupancy prayers in the mosque, the Lieutenant Governor should immediately look into the matter and so that any tragedy could be averted.” Yatoo demanded that the concerned agency should be taken to task so that it serves as a lesson to the other departments in their future endeavors.
Yatoo said that a joint team of experts from NIT Srinagar and JKPCC visited the site of the Khankah (Mosque) at Chararisharief June 12, 2021. “The team from NIT Srinagar conducted an inspection of the entire mosque in order to review the layout and to identify the affected critical area. This was followed by thorough non-destructive testing of the affected portion of the structure. But the team recommended that the structure under reference should not be thrown open to mass gatherings till the affected critical area is repaired.”
Yatoo said, “The Deputy Commissioner Budgam had passed written instructions to the caretakers of the shrine to avoid gatherings as the report submitted by the NIIT team has sounded caution.”
The Apni Party leader said that the residents of Charar-e-Sharief and devotees who throng the shrine everyday are waiting for the authorities to undertake the repairs so that they can offer prayers in the Khankah. “I on behalf of the residents of Charar-e-Sharief appeal to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to intervene and direct the concerned agency to sort out this matter at the earliest.”
