Cyber crime awareness programme held at DPL Reasi

JAMMU, July 20: On the recommendations envisaged during Annual DGP/IGP Conference-2021 and in order to aware police personnel's and general public about the latest modus operandi adopted by the cyber criminals/fraudsters to dupe the innocent people, Cyber-crime awareness program was organised at District Police Line Reasi
The thrust of the awareness camp was to make aware police personnel's/general public about emerging Cyber-crime threats like Phishing, Smishing, Vishing, Bogus Giveaway scams, Fake Windows-11 installers, Online gaming apps, Social Media scrapping, Online Job frauds, cyber grooming, cyber bullying, cyber stalking, sexting and online financial frauds and about other methods used by the cyber criminals to steal sensitive information from the users. They were also advised not to respond to any call seeking their personal information / Bank details and follow some basic safety tips like:-
Keep antivirus and operating system up to date in your devices.
Regularly backup your sensitive/important data at regular intervals.
Be careful, check for any suspicious web links/fake URLs, SMS and e-mail attachment.
Keep your password/PIN confidential. Use strong passwords with a combination of special characters, numbers, upper case and lower case.
Keep changing your passwords periodically and do not use the same password in multiple accounts.
Use the latest security tools like firewall, anti-virus software to protect your critical data and privacy.
Try to avoid unknown persons in the friend list on social media accounts.
Never divulge any confidential/sensitive information during chatting on social media platform.
At the conclusion, the participants were asked to spread the Cyber-crime awareness among their near ones so that they may not fall prey to the fraudsters/Cyber Criminals and remain cautious.
It is pertinent to mention here that District Police Reasi through its official Social Media Accounts i.e. Facebook / Twitter etc. is being regularly posting the Cyber-crime safety tips / latest emerging cyber trends to generate cyber awareness among the public.
