Govt GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar announces Duggar Choir

HIRANAGAR, July 25: Govt. Girdari Lal Dogra Memorial Degree College Hiranagar proclaimed a choir with the name "Duggar Choir" in a special event of folk music at the Department of Music of the college. The event was presided by the Principal of the College, Dr. Pragya Khanna. The programme began with the introduction of folk music and culture by Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in Music. A formal announcement of the established of the choir was made by the release of a poster of the choir by the Principal of the college along with Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Dr. Arun Kumar, Vikram Jamwal and other professors and music lovers who had joined the programme through online mode. A special performance was made in which a medley of different folk songs of the region was sung by the choir. Dr. Pragya Khanna in her presidential remarks appreciated the efforts of the organisers especially the Department of Music in the enactment of the choir and also for the overall development of the college.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan in his formal introduction of the choir said that "Duggar Choir" is the first choir of Dogri Folk Music from Jammu and Kashmir. The Choir is comprised of students with best voice from B.A/B.Sc. courses of Govt. GLDM Degree college Hiranagar, J&K. Students of the college will be shortlisted and selected from each semester periodically. Choir is comprised of 7 or 12 members only. The choir would represent the diversity of Jammu region. Dr. Bharat Bhushan is the Director of the Choir is and Dr. Mukesh Kumar is the Deputy Director.
The objective of the choir is the development of performance, confidence, poise and etiquette as well as the development of the spirit of teamwork and cooperation. It will work to develop the skill in vocal production through coordination and collaboration. Further the choir will work to ensemble skills including blend, balance, group intonation, rhythmic precision, and good tone through coordinated and intentional vocal technique. Last but not the least the choir will work to explore the Dogra culture, music and language and will also represent it national and international level. The programme was compered by Dr. Arun Kumar, head Department of Sociology and formal vote of thanks were presented by Vikram Jamwal, Physical Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports.
