Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 24: Congress leaders on Friday joined the celebrations held in Jammu region to celebrate Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday and Jammuties succeeding in their endeavor to make the government declare the late Maharaja’s birth anniversary as a public holiday across J&K.
Congress leaders congratulated the people over the success of the struggle of holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh and termed it a hard earned holiday by the Dogras especially the youths led by Yuva Rajput Sabha.
They claimed that the Congress always supported the demand for the holiday on Maharaja’s birthday and extended full support to the demand of people.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “There is no harm in Congress leaders joining the celebrations on Maharaja’s birthday but someone needs to ask them when they were in power why couldn’t they declare Maharaja’s birthday as a public holiday?”
“The statement of the Congress leaders that they always supported the demand of declaring Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday as a public holiday has no takers. Had they supported the demand they would have strived for it when they were in power. The Congress shared power for 12 consecutive years first with PDP from 2002 to 2008 and then with National Conference from 2008 to 2014,” the analyst added.
He said, “The Congress leaders should stop taking credit and need to acknowledge that they were unable to declare Maharaja’s birthday as holiday when they had the power to do so.” It’s in place to mention here that the activists and leaders of the Congress Party on Friday celebrated the 127th birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh at Hari Singh Park near Vivekanand Chowk, apart from joining the mega celebrations at Maharaja Hari Singh statue at Tawi bridge Jammu.
