Sajan, Verman selected for Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award

JAMMU, Oct 4: Famous Ghazalkar-poet- Singer-composer Sham Sajan; and writer- painter- cum- cultural critic- journalist Jang S. Verman have been selected for Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award- 2022, the second edition of the award established and implemented jointly by his family and Hindi Sahitya Mandal in the memory of late Ramesh Mehta, writer- editor- former Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. After the permanent jury nominated by the family took its decision unanimously on Monday and gave formal information to the Mehta family and Hindi Sahitya Mandal, this decision was informed by his daughter Pavitra Mehta on behalf of Ramesh Mehta's family and Dr. Chanchal Dogra, President Hindi Sahitya Mandal in a press release issued here today. This award will be given to both the selected- winning culture workers in a ceremony to be held on 12th November, 2022 on the eve of Ramesh Mehta's upcoming birthday (13th November).
It may be noted that on behalf of the organizers, this award will be given to those who are working in the fields related to literary, performing and visual arts, including music, Hindi and English and writing, Hindi journalism, and the intention to provide help for the promotion of education and literature of Hindi and performing and fine arts etc. It will also be considered that the award should be given to those deserving and hardworking persons of Jammu region, who may not have got the requisite recognition from the regional or central art/ literary academies to their excellent work & contribution. According to these standards/ paradigms, the award jury decided the award on unanimous basis after considering the names of some artists/ writers currently working in Jammu region. After this process, this jury unanimously came to the decision that "Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award- 2022 in its second edition, should be given to Sham Sajan and Jang S. Verman in recognition of their outstanding contribution to music- culture and cultural- journalism.
As it had been declared from the first edition of the award that the Puraskar will consist of prize money of Rs. 11000/-, and a Citation and a Doshala will be presented to the award winner. The award ceremony will be organized in collaboration with Hindi Sahitya Mandal.
Prof. Kiran Bakshi, renowned Hindi story writer and a retired Principal; Prof. (Dr.) Chanchal Dogra, poet and a retired Principal; and Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Magotra, Dogri story writer; retired HoD Physics, Jammu University; former Convener- Dogri at Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; and the President of Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, are included in the permanent jury of Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award.
