| Gruesome murder of DGP Lohia raises many questions about security for higher-ups | | |

Jammu, Oct 4: Although the domestic help who was the main accused in the sensational murder of DGP Prisons Hemant Kumar Lohia has been arrested by the police but this incident has raised many questions.
He was brutally murdered on Monday evening at the house of his friend in Udheywala on the outskirts of Jammu city.
The initial suspect is alleged to be his domestic help Mohammad Yasir, who has been arrested. His questioning has started.
The brutality of the murder has raised suspicions about the “terror” angle to the murder the way late DGP’s throat was slit and his body set on fire afterward. Or it was done to erase all evidence and mislead the investigations.
The DGP is learnt to have first been strangled to death, then his throat slit and later his body set on fire. Unconfirmed visuals circulated on social media show his face and upper part of the body largely burnt beyond recognition.
Some terror organizations have also claimed responsibility for the murder. Police have so far ruled out any terror angle into the murder. Investigations have started and all angles are being probed.
The sensational murder has sent shock waves across the country, particularly in the union territory capital of Jammu city. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah had arrived in the city just hours before the murder was reported.
Some important questions are being raised about the intent and motive behind the murder.
People familiar with him describe Lohia as a thorough professional and an equally thorough gentleman, soft-spoken who would always mind his own business. It is difficult to assume that he may be having any personal enemies.
The initial suspect, Yasir, his domestic help is believed to have been with him for the last six months. It is surprising that the slain DGP could not doubt him all this time. More so Lohia was a brilliant and outstanding officer and quite intelligent at that. How he let someone, with such clear and committed intent and motive to kill him, serve him for so long without any suspicion is difficult to imagine. |
