Kishtwar, Oct 28 : In yet another tragic fire incident, 23 families become homeless while few other suffered partial damages to their homes in latest fire incident that engulfs Chug village of Gandhari in Tun Panchayat of remote Padder area, some 90 KM from Kishtwar District bordering neighbouring Himachal Pradesh on one side and Ladakh on other side.
DC Kishtwar Dr. Devansh Yadav told Early Times that at least 23 families become homeless in today’s unfortunate incident that took place at around 1-2 AM during Mid Night.
“Police and administration launch the rescue operation soon the news of fire incident broke out and as many as 80-85 people were safely evacuated from the fire affected village and were shifted to safer places” DC Kishtwar Dr. Devansh Yadav told Early Times. He said that the relief material based on blankets, utensils, beds, ration and other daily need items had been dispatched to affected village and he along with SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain Butt was on its way to Padder for on-spot assessment of the losses suffered by the people.
DC Kishtwar inform that all possible help under SDRF is being provided to the fire victims beside a cash assistance of Rs.10000 each to all the 23 families will be provided out of the Red Cross relief fund.
SSP Kishtwar told Early Times that Police Party led by I/C SDPO Atholi Zia ul Haq immediately rush to the affected village for help to the local villagers in controlling the fire from further being spread.
“Fire is under control and police and administration is on job” said SSP Kishtwar.
The Chug Village in Gandhari area of Padder is without road and due to non availability of fire fighting equipments, the losses to the property was huge.
Today’s fire incident reminded that of the major fire tragedy of Margi village in Warwan in which more than 150 Residential houses reduce to ashes in the year 2008 followed by another similar fire incidents in Sukhnie (Warwan), Ongaie and upper Ungie (Padder) and Tun village also in Padder suffered in successive fire incidents.
The locals of Padder, Chatroo, Marwah, Warwan, Drabshalla & Bhunzwah areas of Kishtwar District from time to time raise the demand for establishment of fire service stations in these areas, but despite repeated assurances from the successive governments, nothing has been done till date.
The official sources inform that the wooden fire furnace is the main cause behind today’s tragic fire incident.
“Due to recent snowfall in higher reaches, the night temperature has dip resulted into extreme cold conditions and burning of wooden fire furnaces is a common practice in remote areas of Kishtwar District to tackle the night cold” the official further said, added that the fire reported from one of the house that later engulfed the adjoining houses, since the houses in the village are sharing common walls with each other- Resulted into massive damages.
The dry fodder stored for the cattle had worked like added fuel & cause more damages.
Meanwhile various NGOs viz Ababeel, Hilal Health Care Society, Sewa Bharti had started collecting donations in the farm of blankets and warm cloths for the fire affected villagers.
