HIRANAGAR, Nov 12: Department of Music, Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Govt. Degree College Hiranagar organised 23rd online lecture of the Manthan series which commenced from June 2022 onwards. The online series of Manthan features online lectures on the subject of music every Saturday. The series has been set to cover the entire India from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The lectures are organised under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav @75. The lecture of this week featured Dr. Nganbi Chanu from Umang Lai Haraoba Department, Manipur University of Culture who spoke on the topic "Manipuri Culture (Lai Haraoba as Manipuri Performing Art. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of the College. Dr. Pragya Khanna in her address highly appreciated the idea of the series of lectures pertaining to the subject of music every week.
The resource person for the lecture Dr. Nganbi Chanu is the A grade artists of Doordarshan Kendra Imphal, She is the recipient of Junior Research Fellowship Award and State Kala Akademi Young Talent Award.She is a well known dancer and a scholar of dance from North East India. She has also contributed to the field of dance with a number of books and has presented a number of papers in seminars and conferences. The resource person in his address described in detail the rich cultural heritage of Manipur in the context of Dance. She explained the dance Lai Haraoba in detail and Role of Manipur University of Culture. She also explained the financial schemes of the Government to promote the culture, art and artists. She also talked on the present situation and role of Instrument makers in Manipur.
Prof. Lawanya Kirti from Bihar who had participated in the lecture talked highly about the series. The series she said is a connecting link for all the music lovers of the nation.
The programme began with a welcome address presented by Dr. Bharat Bhushan Head, Department of Music of the college. He also said that after the completion of the series a compiled book of all the proceedings and articles from all the lectures will be published. The work and initiative would be a contribution to the knowledge and literature in the field of music which would further strengthen the institution at large. The project is encouraged and inspired by the worthy Principal of the college Dr. Pragya Khanna.
The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views about the series. Those who attended the lecture were Prof. Lawanya Kirti from Bihar, Dr. Surendra Kumar Sikkim University, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra and Prof. Yash Kumar from GCW Udhampur College, Dr. Nishtha Sharma from Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Prof. Sujat Khan, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Manjot Singh, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr. Usha Rani, Dr. Jyoti Rani, Dr. Arun Kumar, Prof. Kiran Thapa, Vikram Jamwal and Dr. Mukesh Kumar from Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar. At the end of the lecture Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Head, Department of Music of the college presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme was organised together with Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports in consultation and support of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college.
