LG exposes NC, PDP ‘white-lie’ on use of J&K’s power, water by other parts of county

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday exposed Kashmir-centric parties, especially the National Conference and Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for instigating people in the name of natural resources and power projects in the Union Territory.
Without naming any political party, the Lieutenant Governor said that some people are raising the “hue and cry” over the natural resources of J&K.
“Some people are trying to create a misconception that other parts of the country are using the power and water of Jammu and Kashmir but the reality is that we can not have more than two hours of power daily if not supplied from outside”, he said and lambasted those who are trying to create a false impression that other parts of the country are using J&K’s water and power.
The Lieutenant Governor said that J&K is capable of generating only 225 megawatts of power throughout the year despite having a capacity of producing over 3450 megawatts of power through its natural resources.
Important to mention here that leaders of NC and PDP have time and again raised the issue of returning power projects to J&K. Both parties claimed that J&K has first right on the power project commissioned by the NHPC and other central agencies.
Meanwhile, the Lt Governor observed that after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, the ecosystem nurturing terrorism has been dismantled. The nation is truly indebted to the brave jawans for safeguarding national security, he added.
“All round economic growth is of primary importance for us so that every citizen is able to live a life of honour and dignity in the environment of peace. The new dynamism in rural infrastructure will result in far greater prosperity for the people,” Lt Governor said.
