Srinagar records season’s coldest night at minus 3.4 C

Srinagar, Dec 14: Srinagar witnesses seasons coldest night with temperature plummeting to minus 3.4 degree Celsius on Wednesday even as the Kashmir valley is in a grip of freezing temperature throwing the normal life out of gear.
The Meteorological Centre forecast is mainly clear with partly cloudy and dry weather to continue till December 21. There is no significant weather system till December 25.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced the season's coldest night with temperature dipped to minus 3.4 degree Celsius on Wednesday which was minus 2.4 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season.
This is for the second time during this month that the minimum temperature plunged to minus 3.4 degree Celsius in Srinagar. On December 5 Srinagar recorded the same temperature of the season.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir remained the coldest place in the Kashmir valley where the minimum temperature dipped to minus 5.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday against the minus 3.0 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was minus 1.3 degree Celsius below normal for the valley of shepherds during this time of the season.
Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of minus 4.2 degree Celsius on Wednesday which was 0.2 degree Celsius below normal during this time of the season for the valley of meadow.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of minus 3.0 degree Celsius, Kukernag minus 0.3 degree Celsius and the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of minus 2.8 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
