Amit Shah’s advice to states
12/18/2022 11:23:32 PM

Recently Union Home Minister Amit Shah while chairing a meeting of chief ministers from eastern zone made it clear that states also share the responsibility for security in India’s border areas.
During the past many years India has been facing the challenge of illegal infiltration, trans-border smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border. But the Border Security Force and other central armed forces are doing a commendable job to tackle the illegal infiltration and other problems on the eastern borders.
It’s not only the eastern zone where India is facing the challenge of illegal infiltration Jammu and Kashmir has been the worst hit as Pakistan since 1990 has been pushing in terrorists and drugs. However, the security forces have been thwarting the attempts of the neighbouring country and the terrorist bosses sitting there.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s view that states too have to share equal responsibility for the security in frontier areas needs to be taken seriously by the states especially the states that share borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan. From Bangladesh, illegal migrants and drugs have been coming into India, while Pakistan has been sending terrorists and now it has started sending in drones to drop weapons and narcotics.
J&K has been the worst victim of Pakistan sponsored terrorism, however after August 5, 2019—when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and divided it into two Union Territories—situation has shown a significant improvement. The Centre has been managing the J&K affiants directly and the security forces have been given a free hand to deal with infiltration and other attempts aimed at fomenting trouble in the Union Territory.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been assisting the central armed forces to tackle the challenges on the border and the formula has worked.
Other frontier states should take a cue from J&K and see how all the security agencies are working in close coordination with each other and are neutralizing the threats emanating from the neighboring countries.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given a roadmap about how the threat from neighbouring countries can be tackled and the states should work on the suggestion that has been put forward by Shah.
