Mayor inspects violent Nallahs, assures to take every step to prevent floods in rainy season

JAMMU, Feb 15: Jammu Mayor, Rajinder Sharma along with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) team conducted an inspection of all the violent Nallahs of Jammu and gave on the spot directions to remove obstacles like PHE pipes, concrete slabs etc in the Nallahs which hinder in smooth flow of water in these big drains.
The Mayor stressed on proper de-silting of these Nallahs and he was informed that the same has been started some 15 days ahead of the scheduled de-silting date.
The Nallahs' inspection has been conducted to prevent water overflow from these Nallahs which otherwise use to enter residential houses and commercial establishments in rainy season inflicting heavy damages.
It was for the first time that such an inspection was conducted for Nallahs by the Urban Local Body JMC wherein officials of the Corporation were seen even inspecting the Nallahs from roof tops of the residential houses near these Nallahs.
The Mayor also urged upon the Chief Secretary of J&K to release immediately some funds under emergency head to correct the faults in these Nallahs so that the public may not suffer in coming months due to floods in these big drains.
Later on Mayor Sharma told reporters that after de-silting work on some Nallahs will be completed, their construction and repair work will begun like at the one Nallah at Udhaywalla.
He further said that wherever else also some repair work of Nallah is needed, it will be done and wherever encroachment over these big drains has taken place, the same will also be removed strictly.
The Nallahs visited by the Mayor and JMC team included Sain Vihar Nallah at Greater Kailash; Nallah at Prof. Chaman Lal Lane, Nallah near Nanak Nagar Gurudwara, Gandhi Nagar deep drain from Asia Hotel side and going to Last Morh, Panama Chowk Drain, Wave Mall Nallah, Pomposh Colony IFC Nallah, By Pass Nallah, encroachment near the house of Lt. DG Masood Chowdhary, encroachment at Kunjwani, encroachment at Nanak Nagar, Nallahs at Dogra Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Kabir Colony, Udheywala, Tomaal, Muthi, Roop Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Bantallab Thathar,Janipur Vegetable Market and Daily Excelsior Lane.
Those who accompanied the Mayor were Joint Commissioner (R&E), JMC, Rakesh Gupta, Joint Commissioner, Health and Sanitation, Kulbhushan Khajuria; Joint Commissioner Works, Rajesh Sumbria; SE , JDA, Sanjeev Gupta, Deputy Commissioner North, Sanjay Badyal, Health Officer, XENs of Jal Shakti Department, Chief Transport Officers and entire team of Sanitation.
