Purported audio of SMC corporator demanding Nazrana goes viral
Colleagues demand probe against ‘Tara, Sitara & Co’

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Feb 15: A purported audio of a corporator at Srinagar Municipal Corporation has gone viral wherein she is heard allegedly demanding Nazrana from a broker for release of money for residents of Srinagar out of a centrally-sponsored scheme.
The audio conversation in Kashmiri between the corporator and the broker, which was per the SMC corporators is over a year old, has surfaced on the social media and gone viral.
Sources said for all these months the audio was “swept under the carpet” as she has been close to some influential coterie of corporators nicknamed “Tara, Sitara & Company”.
The corporator, who is allegedly from near Dal Lake neighborhood was demanding “fifty percent commission” from the broker for getting government scheme money transferred into bank accounts of common people out of the centrally sponsored scheme for developmental activities on civic front.
A delegation of the SMC corporators said there was a need for probe as the woman under scanner is heard saying that she got the payments of the beneficiaries of the government scheme stopped at “government and bank level” unless she is paid Nazrana.
“There is enough evidence that she was running a nexus with bank defaulter corporator and his boss, both of whom are nicknamed ‘Tara and Sitara’.
The question is what influence she was using to get public payments stopped at banks. This is something really serious,” said the corporators, on the condition of anonymity.
The SMC corporators said she was running “Nazrana nexus in league with Tara and Sitara.” The corporators said the audio conversation has put entire civic body to unwanted embarrassment. “Why should we corporators face embarrassment due to wrongdoing of some one specific blacksheep,” corporators asked.
They appealed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to order an inquiry into the matter.
The corporator in question was not available for comments.
