Different issues including low availability of green fodder, low productivity, non-availability of adequate veterinary staff and services and non-remunerative price for milk and milk products were discussed in the meeting.
Considering these constraints, JKDFA members suggested that appropriate strategy should be formulated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra with the help of District veterinary department or other agencies engaged in dairy development for transfer of technology relevant to scientific dairy farming practices in the area.
JKDFA President speaking on the occasion said that Dairying is considered as one of the major societal assets globally due to its economic and nutritional benefits. Dairy Sector can play a pivotal role in achieving food security; improving rural economy and income, improving the nutritional value of diets, ending poverty and act as an essential means of livelihood in a sustainable manner if pro-dairy farming initiatives are taken by Govt timely and efficiently.

He maintained that with the implementation of prestigious flag-ship schemes, viz., Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), Dairy Development Scheme (DDS), Feed & Fodder Development Scheme (F&FDS), Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund,RGM Scheme ,NLM, Extension of Kisan Credit Card facility to animal husbandry farmers, Establishment of cluster model milk villages under Tribal Sub Plan, etc will definitely bring fruitful results.
Dairying with high yielding crossbred cattle should be emphasized which can create employment avenues, led to entrepreneurship development and thereby generate ample scope for developing the dairy farming on commercial lines as a business enterprise, added Khajuria.
