Jammu, Feb 15: J&K Dairy Farming Association today organized monthly meeting at Kissan Kendra Talab Tillo in which more than 120 farmer’s attended meeting today. JKDFA President Kulbhushan Khajuria, Senior Vice President, Surjeet Singh, Vice President Kishore Sharma, Treasurers Sukhdev Choudhary, Satpal Choudhary, Advisor Dr Pardeep Bharti, Secretary Balwinder Singh, Provincial President Sandeep Chib, District President Jammu Keher Singh, District President Samba Sunil Sharma, District President Ramban Mohd Sadiq, Chief Animal Husbandry Altaf were present in the meeting. Different issues including low availability of green fodder, low productivity, non-availability of adequate veterinary staff and services and non-remunerative price for milk and milk products were discussed in the meeting.
Considering these constraints, JKDFA members suggested that appropriate strategy should be formulated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra with the help of District veterinary department or other agencies engaged in dairy development for transfer of technology relevant to scientific dairy farming practices in the area.
JKDFA President speaking on the occasion said that Dairying is considered as one of the major societal assets globally due to its economic and nutritional benefits. Dairy Sector can play a pivotal role in achieving food security; improving rural economy and income, improving the nutritional value of diets, ending poverty and act as an essential means of livelihood in a sustainable manner if pro-dairy farming initiatives are taken by Govt timely and efficiently.
Khajuria further said that if Govt aims to doubling farmer’s income from dairying, then Administration must be working tirelessly to ensure utmost priority is being extended to dairy development in the union territory, by way of implementing various developmental schemes/ initiatives/ policies, etc.
He maintained that with the implementation of prestigious flag-ship schemes, viz., Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), Dairy Development Scheme (DDS), Feed & Fodder Development Scheme (F&FDS), Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund,RGM Scheme ,NLM, Extension of Kisan Credit Card facility to animal husbandry farmers, Establishment of cluster model milk villages under Tribal Sub Plan, etc will definitely bring fruitful results.
Dairying with high yielding crossbred cattle should be emphasized which can create employment avenues, led to entrepreneurship development and thereby generate ample scope for developing the dairy farming on commercial lines as a business enterprise, added Khajuria.
