Maha Shivratri celebrated with religious fervour across Akhnoor

AKHNOOR, Feb 18: Mahashivratri was today celebrated with religious fervour across Akhnoor with thousands of devotees visiting various temples to offer special prayers. Devotees in thousands from different parts of Jammu visited historic Kameshwar temple Akhnoor, Shiv Temple Gosan, Shiv Temple Jia Potta and Shiv Temple Balle Da Bagh to pay obeisance and offering special prayers.
Elaborate arrangements were made by the temple management committees for the smooth darshan of Shiva lingam by the devotees. Drinking water, free food, medicare facilities for the devotees were also put in place by the management.
SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat also visited the temple and paid obeisance to Lord Shiva and offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of the nation. While interacting with the devotees, SSP Mohan Lal extended Shivratri greetings to all and said that festivals were a harbinger of peace, prosperity and promote communal harmony and people should celebrate them with enthusiasm and traditional fervour. He asked the people to maintain peace and promote communal harmony which is a unique identity of India. In his religious discourse, Mahamandaleshwar Mahant Rameshwar Dass Ji dwelt upon the history of the Kameshwar Mandir in Akhnoor, which is believed to be about 5500 years old and belongs to the era of the Pandavas. He discoursed the devotees about the importance of prayers on the eve of the pious Maha Shivratri.
At Gosan since the wee hours today, there was a heavy rush of devotees in all the prominent Shiva temples. People from different age groups, including children, young and elders, thronged the Shiv temples for paying obeisance and offering water mixed with milk on the holy Shivling. All the Shiv temples were well decorated for the occasion. Several devotees also observed fast. Former Vice Chairman Kissan Board Daljit Singh Chib, DDC Chairman Bharat Bhushan Bodhi, Atul Sudan etc paid their obeisance at here.
