Jammu, Mar 5: Barely two days after senior leader of Bharatiya Janta Party from Jammu and Kashmir, Sunil Sharma held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the party leaders discussed much-awaited Assembly elections at a party meeting held in Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul along with J&K General Secretary and Incharge Kashmir Affairs Sunil Sharma chaired a meeting of senior party leaders “regarding upcoming party programs and booth sashaktikaran” at Jawahar Nagar here even as the issue of elections was discussed threadbare. The meeting was attended by Senior leaders Dr Ali Mohammed Mir, BJP Spokesperson Altaf Thakur, UT Media Incharge Manzoor Bhat, Senior leader Surinder Ambardar, President Srinagar Ashok Bhat, Publicity Incharge Arif Raja, Social Media incharge Bilal Parray, North South incharge’s Mudasir Wani Veer Saraaf, Incharge Baramulla Anwar Khan district Office secretary Salinder Sìngh.
Sources said while attending the meeting, Ashok Koul and Sunil Sharma hinted at Assembly elections “anytime soon”. Sources said the party cadres were told to brace up for democratic activities including Assembly elections that are awaited since 2018 when the party’s alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said the meeting was told that the Election Commission of India team could visit Jammu and Kashmir anytime to review situation for the holding of elections. The party cadres were also asked to prepare for the Urban Local Body polls expected later this year.
A party handout hinted at the same. Ashok Koul while addressing the meeting “asked the party leaders to lay emphasis on strengthening the party at booth-level with assembly election in UT J&K slated to be announced any time in near future.”
“He told the party leaders to contact the ground level workers and the common masses hailing from their booth area to apprise them of the works done by the BJP government, both in state and center, and discuss their issues in detail alongside. He asked them to do their task diligently and ensure their work to the full expectations of the organization,” the BJP handout said.
