| Result of lawlessness: Centre thinking to shift G20 meet from Punjab to Delhi | | | Jammu, March 7: Failure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to improve the law and order situation is proving disastrous for Punjab as a message has gone across the nation that there is complete anarchy in the border state.
After the Ajnala Police Station, Punjab received a severe setback in the investment summit, and now the Union Government is seriously thinking to shift G20 meeting from Amritsar to Delhi due to the deteriorating law and order situation.
Reports said that the G20 meeting's location will be moved from Amritsar due to the law and order situation in Punjab, as per the Ministry of External Affairs.
As per sources, the decision was made in response to events including the storming of the Ajnala police station, a threat made by Sikh for Justice (SFJ), and other instances.
On March 15 to 17 and March 19 to 20, respectively, Amritsar is slated to host the G20 meetings on education and the L20 meetings on labour, and the local government has already started giving the city a facelift to welcome foreign visitors.
As per media reports, there were intelligence inputs that farmers and some pro-Khalistan elements were planning protests and causing law and order problems.
“It's indeed unfortunate that such a thing has happened. The situation isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be. I think this is a classic example of petty politicking. I hope the Centre reconsiders its decision,” Congress leader Manish Tewari said.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the other hand asked officials to pull up their socks to make the two sessions of G20 summit in the state a success. Punjab is slated to hold two sessions - first between March 15-17 on education and second between March 19-20 on labour. |
