Mountaineering Association to organize expedition | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 11: To be led by one of the 11 Everesters of Jammu the 15- member team of budding climbers of Mountaineering Association of J&K may include another Everester and at least 5 girls. The Association has planned to train the team, comprising mostly of fresh mountaineers, for at least a month before launch of the prestigious expedition in which the Association hopes to scale at least three peaks including Dzo Jongo (20500ft), Mentok-1, Mentok-II and Mentok-III all standing at a height of over 20000ft besides Kang Yatse (20500ft) which the four member team of the Association had narrowly missed last year. Besides the decision to organise a major mountaineering expedition, election to the posts of Vice President (Kashmir) and Joint Secretary (Kashmir) which had fallen vacant due to resignation of the concerned office bearers were also conducted in which Khurshid Ahmad Laigroo of Glacier Trekking and Mountaineering Club, Anantnag and Syed Abdul Mohsin of Sunridges Trekking and Mountaineering Club, Pulwama were elected unanimously. Zorawar Singh Jamwal, President of the Association, also impressed upon the clubs to complete their Calendar of Activities before the close of the financial year besides organising some sport climbing competitions for school students.
