Opposition unity in disarray as DPAP, Apni Party, PC skip all-party meet
3/11/2023 11:15:23 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 11: Notwithstanding claims of the National Conference leadership to unite all opposition parties of Jammu and Kashmir, three prominent parties skipped today’s all-party meeting convened by National Conference chief Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
No representatives of the newly floated Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Apni Party of Altaf Bukhari, and Peoples’ Conference of Sajad Gani Lone attended the all-party meeting.
Although it was known to everybody that the Apni Party and Peoples’ Conference would skip the all-party, the decision of DPAP to stay away from the meeting is a setback to the opposition unity.
Highly placed sources said that NC leadership was very particular that representatives of DPAP would attend the meeting but their hopes were shattered as Azad’s party decided to skip the meeting.
Although DPAP has supported the Jammu Bandh call given by the Chamber of Commerce and Industries against Property Tax, the party decided not to attend the all-party meeting.
Sources said that DPAP leadership is not happy with the way NC leadership is giving importance to Congress. “Instead of taking Ghulam Nabi Azad into good humour to form a united front in J&K, NC leadership is giving importance to Congress at the cost of Azad”, sources said and added that DPAP leadership has decided not to attend any meeting in which Congress leaders are present.
Except for Congress leader Raman Bhalla and Panthers Party leader Harsh Dev Singh, no big political face from the Jammu region was present in today’s all-party meeting.
