New Delhi pulls up JK admin for ‘breach’ of Pandit community security; inquiry on cards | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 11: In a major goof up, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has come under the scanner of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for the apprehended breach of security of Kashmiri Pandits, who have been the victims of the targeted killings in the last few years in particular. Sources said some officials in the administration by “mistake shared crucial information about the fresh security arrangements of Kashmir pandits and subsequently withdrew it.” It was reliably learnt that the MHA has taken a serious note of the issue. The sources said the information-leak could become a potential threat and that inquiry into the matter was on the cards. “A serious breach of security has taken place and the matter needs to be investigated as to why any official or a group of them behaved so irresponsibly that the crucial information was shared in public domain only to be withdrawn. This needs serious investigations as such misadventures can prove deadly,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. The recent killing of a Kashmiri Pandit in Pulwama district revived the atmosphere of insecurity and fear in Kashmir. Sanjay Kumar, the father of three minor children, who worked as a bank security guard was shot dead in Achan village of Pulwama district on February 26. Around dozen people from the Hindu community have been killed by terrorists in the valley in the last two years alone. The Pakistan backed terror outfits, on the other hand, continue to issue death threats to the victimized Pandit community. The MHA, however, is concerned about the well being of the Pandit community and has directed the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure their foolproof security. Under the PM’s package, around 6,000 Kashmiri Pandit employees have been employed by the J&K administration and posted in various government departments in Kashmir. As part of the package, the administration is also constructing transit accommodations for the employees in Kashmir, some of which are already operational. From prominent medical shop owner Makhan Lal Bindroo to Rahul Bhat who was shot dead in his office, the Pandit community continues to bleed and their security is a crucial concern for the government. |
