Omar chooses Bajalta for his rally to give Rana a message
3/20/2023 10:54:51 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 20: Although Omar Abdullah preferred not to say any word against his friend-turned-political rival, the former Chief Minister intentionally chose Bajalta for his political rally to give a challenge to former key aide Devendra Singh Rana.
Sources said that before finalizing Batala as a venue for the rally, National Conference leaders asked all senior party leaders to utilize all resources to make a success to give a message to Devendra Singh Rana for deserting the party during a crucial time.
Sources in the NC said that some leaders of the party were of the view that it was all due to the party’s vote bank that Devendra Singh had won the assembly elections from the Nagrota assembly segment defying the Modi wave in the 2014 assembly elections.
“It is the result of this narrative that NC organized Omar Abdullah’s rally at Batalata”, sources said.
Bajalta, which is now a part of the Jammu East assembly segment as per recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, was earlier part of the Nagrota assembly constituency which is a citadel of Devender Singh Rana.
Defying a strong Modi wave in the 2014 assembly elections, Rana had won elections from this segment to prove his credentials as a mass-based leader. The decision of Omar Abdullah to address a rally at Bajalta is a clear indication that the next assembly elections will witness an interesting fight in the Nagrota assembly segment.
Two prominent faces of the National Conference in Jammu province namely Devendra Singh Rana and Surjeet Salathia had joined the BJP on October 11, 2022 after resigning from the primary membership of the party.
While joining BJP Devendra Singh Rana had stated that he joined the BJP because of the party’s positive response to his efforts to set a “Jammu narrative” through the “Jammu Declaration”.
“ I pitched for the Jammu Declaration, which will be a voice of Jammu by Jammu for inclusive Jammu and Kashmir. It will defeat the votaries of the Dixon Plan who want to divide the Jammu region on the basis of religion,” Rana had stated said.
