Cong MLA opposes action against Amritpal Singh
3/20/2023 10:54:57 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 20: As the party leadership failed to clear its stand on the action of the Punjab Government against radical elements, party MLA Sukhpal Kharia opposed the action of the government against the chief of Waris Punjab De and radical leader Amritpal Singh.
Notably, a senior leader of Punjab and Lok Sabha Ravneet Singh Bittu is demanding strict action against Amritpal Singh and other radical elements.
Even the president of the Punjab Congress, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring chided Amritpal Singh for running away after police raids.
Meanwhile, Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not to charge detained Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh under the stringent UAPA or NSA, but only for storming a police station with swords to secure an aide’s release from jail.
“I urge Bhagwant Mann not to charge Amritpal Singh under draconian laws like UAPA or NSA as there’s no terror activity involved. He can be charged in the Ajnala incident. Otherwise, it’ll be presumed you’re surrendering a Sikh youth to central agencies,” Khaira tweeted, asking why action has been taken against gangster Lawrence Bishnoi yet.
Punjab Police has launched a massive action against Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De. The Union Home Ministry has been in constant touch with the state government.
Six of Singh’s aides were earlier detained in Jalandhar and are being questioned at an undisclosed location.
Over 50 police vehicles chased the Khalistani leader and his aides to arrest them after the Punjab Police traced Singh’s latest location near Shahkot, a little over a hundred kilometres from Amritsar. The Internet has been suspended in certain parts of Punjab until tomorrow.
