Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 4: Even as the Srinagar police have busted a sex racket here on April 3, the people are curious to know details of the clients who would exploit the women.
The Police Station Chanapora raided a rented accommodation at Bagh-e-Mehtab and nabbed eight persons including two “pimps”, four “female sex workers” and two clients.
The police in its social media post giving details said: “A prostitution racket in a rented accommodation at Bagh-e-Mehtab busted. 2 persons running this arrested: 1) Irshad Ahmad Bhat of Pampore 2) Mohd Shafi Hajam of Karimabad Pulwama. 4 female sex workers (all locals of Srinagar) & 2 customers detained. FIR registered at chanpura PS.”
“On spot further four sex workers and 2 customers- all locals of Srinagar- were also detained for questioning,” a police statement said.
While the names of the two “pimps” were given in the initial police statement, the names of “clients” were not disclosed.
The development has left the people curious
Follow-Up
o know who the two persons could be.
Many on the social media while appreciating the prompt police action raised questions as to why the names of clients were not being made public.
Sources close to the police said the names of the clients would be disclosed in the due course of action as the investigations are underway and more arrests are likely.
The sources said a police team is probing as to since how long the sex racket was operational and who all were visiting the “makeshift brothel or were getting exploited.”
“Initial inputs suggest that the rented accommodation was being used a makeshift brothel where women would be exploited against money. Police is looking into all angles of the case and more arrests are likely in the coming details,” said an official privy to the investigations.
Police said the owner of the house had not done tenant verification before renting out the premises.
Meanwhile a case under sections of 3,4,8 of Immoral Trafficking Act has been registered at Police station Chanapora.
