SKUAST Vice Chancellor visits Krishi Vigyan Kendra

REASI, Apr 4: Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai, Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) visited here today at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi. He inspected KVK instructional Farm, Demonstration units and reviewed functioning of the KVK,Reasi. He also inaugurated District Agro Metrological Unit (DAMU) of KVK, Reasi equipped with the latest technologies on weather forecasting. During his visit at KVK, he also had a healthy interaction with progressive farmers of the district and KVK, Reasi scientists. On the occasion Prof.Ganai was accompanied by Prof. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension of SKUAST-J.
In his address, Prof.Ganai laid emphasis upon establishment of Farmers' Producer Organization (FPOs) with marketing linkages and branding of agricultural products. He further advised that that value addition of fruits, vegetables, milk products, medicinal and aromatic plants, adoption of protected cultivation, organic and natural farming etc.are required to enhance the income and employment among the farmers. He also stressed on atamnirbhar Krishi and discussed on development of local brandand products. He explained how farmers can get good price for their produce by grading,labelling, developing credibility and best marketing practices. He also discussed on the HADP project undergoing in J&K for the upliftment of the farmers. He stressed for horizontal expansion of the organic cultivation. Two publications on "Augmenting income of the farmers through commercial floriculture" and "Natural Farming" were also released during the occasion. Knapsack sprayers and vermibeds were also distributed to progressive farmers. He interacted with the farmers and applauded their efforts specially on organic farming and lemongrass farming. Later Prof.Ganai also visited KVK, Reasi farm and discussed in detailed about the scientific interventions with the KVK scientists.
Prof.S.K.Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu in his address appreciated the efforts of KVK, Reasi and assured the farming community for all possible technical support with respect to issues and problems faced by the farmers. He said that KVK scientists working hard for betterment of the farmers and KVK will continue to do so in future also under able guidance of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor.
Earlier Dr.Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Reasi while welcoming the dignitaries gave detailed outlines about how KVK is working tirelessly for the benefits of Reasi and Udhampur districts farmers of J&K. He apprised the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor about the technical support provided by KVK on organic and natural farming, medicinal and aromatic plants, spices production, value addition in agriculture etc. The proceeding of the programme was carried by Dr.Lalit Upadhyay. During the programme Dr.Mandeep Singh Azad, Dr.Sanajy Koushal, Dr.Lobzang Stanzen, Sh.Jagdish Kumar, Sh.Manohar Lal, Ms.Preeti Choudhary and others were also present. At the end Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Scientist presented formal vote of thanks.
