Exposure visit of GCET students to BIS, Industry at Bari Brahmana

JAMMU, Apr 13: Today, BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office organized an exposure visit for students of Govt. College of Engineering & Technology (GCET) Jammu at its branch office and a factory at Bari Brahmana. The objective of the visit was to make students' quality conscious by giving them exposure to BIS Certified Manufacturing Unit. During the visit, Hitesh Yadav, Assistant Director, BIS, JKBO apprised the students about the role of BIS in protecting the rights of consumers through standards and Conformity Assessment. He informed that ISI Mark, Hallmark and Compulsory Registration Schemes provide third-party guarantee of product quality, safety and reliability to the consumers. The process of Standards Formulation, Product certification, Hallmarking and System Certification, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme, Compulsory Registration Scheme, Testing & Calibration Services and International Activities were explained to the students through power point presentation. The students also learnt to download the Indian Standards through BIS e-portal 'Know Your Standards'. The BIS Care App was also demonstrated to the students through which authenticity of ISI Mark, Hallmark and CRS can be verified and complaints can also registered. They showed keen interest in BIS activities.
After the interactive session, students visited M/s Shakti Tools, Bari Brahmana where iron was processing and quality testing were shown and explained. They appreciated BIS initiative of organizing such exposure visits.
