Early Times Report

Anantnag, Apr 23: Residents of G B Khalil area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged a protest on Eid day against the alleged diversion of funds that were sanctioned to macadamize the road leading to their area.
Residents while talking to Early Times said, “Our forty year long pending demand to macadamize the road was fulfilled by the LG administration. The sanction was accorded to macadamize 5.5 kilometre long road connecting our area.”
They alleged that the funds meant to macadamize the roads leading to G B Khali area are being diverted towards macadamizing the non-priority roads. “The concerned department has taken up the macadmization of other roads and the department is giving lame excuses for it,” they alleged. They said, “It’s a vital road and connects the entire area with the National Highway.”
“This is a priority road and heart of the village,” they said, adding, “We voted for politicians for 40-years but they couldn’t macadamize our road. Funds that were sanctioned by the LG administration to macadamize this road too have been diverted.”
A child said that whenever we go to school our uniform gets spoilt.
“We urge the LG administration and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag to order a probe to know the reasons why the funds meant for this priority road have been diverted to other roads,” residents said.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Bashrat Qayoom said, “Matter will be looked into.”
