Marwah locals save lives of 3 army men injured in chopper crash

Kishtwar, May 4: In a tragic incident, three army persons on board Advance Light Helicopter Dhuru were injured after the chopper made a hard landing in Marwah area of Kishtwar District in Jammu and Kashmir.
The official sources told Early Times that the chopper as per routine operation took off from Kishtwar helipad at around 10.45 am before it crash near village Machhna area of Marwah on the bank of river Marrusudhar at around 11.15 AM within half an hour from the take off.
As soon as the chopper crashes, the people living in and around the crash site immediately rush to the spot and bring out the injured army personnels from the debris of the ill fated chopper before army and police from Nawapachi unit of Marwah rush to the spot, the local comes as a saviour for them and help the army and police to shifting the injured to Marwah helipad where they were given the first aid treatment by the army & local doctors before they were airlifted to army command hospital Udhampur.
As soon as the chopper crashes, army immediately rush the teams to the crash site by rushing MI 17 chopper along with over half dozen choppers to Marwah and Kishtwar, beside local administration also put District Hospital Kishtwar on alert so that injured if required could be shifted to the District Hospital.
The weather in Kishtwar was bad while Marwah area also witnessed light rain and heavy clouds when the incident took place.
Marwah area of Kishtwar District is cut off from the rest of the country since last five months due to closure of Margan top and Sinthan pass due to snowfall & army mostly remain depended on air sorties for transportation of goods and medical supplies through chopper.
Meanwhile Army’s Northern Command in a press statement the copy of which is with Early Times stated that at about 1115 hours on 04 May 2023, an Army Aviation ALH Dhruv helicopter on an operational mission made a precautionary landing on the banks of Marua river in the Kishtwar region of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per inputs, the pilots had reported a technical fault to the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and proceeded for a precautionary landing. Due to the undulating ground, undergrowth and unprepared landing area, the helicopter apparently made a hard landing. Immediate rescue operations were launched and Army rescue teams reached the site.
Two pilots and a technician were on board. All three injured personnel have been evacuated to Command Hospital, Udhampur.
A Court of Inquiry has been ordered beside further details are being ascertained. However army did not release the name of the injured person on board the ill fated helicopter.
