JAMMU, May 5: S.S. Sodhi, Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Intellectual Civil Society, New Delhi, expressed his pride and congratulations to Ajay Banga on his confirmation as the next World Bank President. Banga, an Indian-origin business executive, was recommended by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to lead the World Bank. He is expected to bring his passion, commitment, and professionalism to the role, and has been described by President Biden as a "transformative leader."
Banga's career began with a degree in economics from Delhi University, followed by an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He then joined Nestle India as a management trainee, and went on to work for various multinational corporations, including Citigroup and Mastercard, where he served as CEO from 2010 to 2020.
During his tenure at Mastercard, Banga successfully led the company's transformation into a technology-driven payment services provider, expanding its presence in emerging markets and championing financial inclusion. He also served on various global advisory boards, including the US-India Business Council and the International Chamber of Commerce.
In a meeting with members of J&KICS, New Delhi S.S. Sodhi expressed his delight at Banga's appointment, stating that "Every Indian is proud of Ajay Banga. In the growing world and technology India is proud to see that Indians are placed with pride and their hard work." He went on to say that Mr. Banga's achievements and leadership qualities are an inspiration to the nation, and that his appointment as World Bank President is a testament to India's talent and potential on the global stage.
Banga's appointment as World Bank President marks a significant milestone for India, and his leadership is expected to bring positive change to the world's most pressing issues, including poverty, climate change, and economic development.
Wishing Banga a long, healthy and blessed life., Sodhi said that as the global economy continues to face challenges and uncertainties, it is crucial for countries to focus on strengthening their economies. One way to achieve this is by appointing professionals with expertise and experience in their respective fields to shape the economic policies and strategies of their countries.
