Early Times Report JAMMU, May 31: Tawi Trekkers J&K, one of the country's prominent adventure clubs, is set to commence the "Sunday Series of Sport Climbing Competitions" in collaboration with the Mountaineering Association of J&K. The inaugural event will take place at the Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in the Sprawling Buds ICSE School campus on Sunday, June 4, 2023. The objective of the Sunday Series is to popularize sport climbing, an Olympic sport, among the masses and provide aspiring climbers in J&K with regular practice and exposure to competitive environments. This initiative aims to prepare them effectively for winning medals in the upcoming zonal championship, thereby qualifying for the Inter Zonal Championship. It should be noted that only climbers who secure medals in the zonal competition are eligible to participate in the Inter Zonal competition. Furthermore, only the medalists of the inter-zonal championship receive invitations to the National Ranking Competitions organized by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the governing body for sport climbing in India. National rankings play a crucial role in the selection process for the national team in international sport climbing competitions. Hence, participation in the zonal competition is mandatory for climbers aspiring to further their selection prospects. With this in mind, the club aims to adequately prepare at least five climbers for each of the six competition categories, ensuring their ability to win medals and qualify for the Inter Zonal Championship. Additionally, their goal is to secure the North Zone Champion's Trophy, which J&K has claimed six times in the past 15 years, with the most recent victory in 2016. For more information and participation inquiries, interested climbers can reach out to the club's General Secretary, Shawetica Khajuria, at mobile number 7006099855. |
