Infighting in J&K Cong turns murkier as leaders try to pull down each other
High command puts its weight behind Viqar Rasool

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 31: Infighting within the Congress Party is getting murkier in Jammu and Kashmir with each passing day as the leaders are trying to establish their supremacy over each other.
Political analysts are of the opinion that if the “Congress leaders don’t give up their rigidity and keep on pulling each other down, the party may lose a little ground which it has been left within the Union Territory.
“A few leaders who are challenging the authority of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Viqar Rasool are camping in New Delhi to put across their point that district presidents have the authority to make appointments,’ said an analyst.
He said, “The leaders who had left Congress to join their mentor Ghulam Nabi Azad and later returned to the party are also finding it hard to readjust themselves, as they are being looked down upon and are not getting their positions back.”
It’s in place to mention here that the Congress leaders who are challenging the authority of Vikar Rasool as JKPCC chief haven’t reportedly got any response from the All-India Congress Committee J&K incharge Rajni Patil and they are knocking the doors of the “Delhi Darbar” to undermine the authority of Vikar Rasool Wani.
He said, “Despite them not being entertained by the party high command they are adamant on their demand.”
Another analyst said, “After losing power in 2014 in J&K the Congress leaders have gone into hibernation. They have failed to act as a strong opposition. Many leaders have changed their turfs and the ones who are left are too busy fighting among themselves.”
He said, “Ghulam Nabi Azad quitting Congress has left the J&K unit in disarray. Congress leaders are a scattered lot and are finding it hard to even share a common table.”
“The Congress high command too seems to have given up and it appears the central leadership too is fed up. If the Congress leaders need to put their act together and sort out their differences, the party can face a massive defeat in the assembly elections whenever these are held in J&K,” the analyst added.
He said, “It’s clearly visible that Congress high command has put its weight behind Viqar Rasool and the ones who are challenging his authority have been made to eat a humble pie.”
