GDC Sidhra marks World No Tobacco Day
5/31/2023 10:50:01 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 31: Tobacco habits have increasingly become a vexing menace to society. Recognizing the vulnerability of adolescents to the harmful practice of tobacco consumption, the Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell of GDC Sidhra, in collaboration with IQAC, G20, Mission LiFE, and the Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav initiative, organized a series of activities to commemorate 'World No Tobacco Day' 2023. The theme for this year's observance is: "We Need Food, Not Tobacco."
The event commenced with a presentation followed by a Pledge Taking Ceremony. Prof. Deepa Kak, Head of the Education Department, served as the resource person and began her lecture by explaining the purpose and significance of celebrating 'World No Tobacco Day.' She provided comprehensive information on the meaning of tobacco, its consumption patterns, the vulnerability of children to tobacco addiction, and the hazards and ill effects associated with tobacco use. Prof. Kak strongly urged the students to refrain from falling into the clutches of this dangerous addiction.
The program continued with a solemn Pledge Taking Ceremony, wherein the principal, faculty, and students of the college pledged to never smoke or consume any form of tobacco products in their lives. They also pledged to motivate their families and acquaintances to abstain from tobacco use and took responsibility for maintaining a tobacco-free campus. Dr. B.B. Anand, the esteemed Principal of the college, further encouraged the students to adopt a healthy lifestyle and avoid engaging in this unhealthy habit in any form.
The event was organized by Prof. Deepa Kak, the Convenor of the Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell, with the support and coordination of Prof. Shonima Malhotra and Prof. Meesha Bhagat, members of the Anti-Drugs and Rehabilitation Cell, and Dr. Anshu Gupta, Convenor of IQAC, under the patronage of Dr. B.B. Anand, the esteemed Principal of the college.
By conducting such activities, the college aims to create awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and encourage individuals to make healthier choices. Celebrating World No Tobacco Day serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle and fostering a society that prioritizes well-being and health.
