Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 6: Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu, witnessed the grand inauguration of Natrang's highly anticipated event for children, the Summer Theatre Camp-2023. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Padmashri Balwant Thakur, the Director of Natrang, accompanied by esteemed senior artists Sumeet Sharma, Vikrant Sharma, and Gauri Thakur (Workshop Coordinator).
Natrang's Children Theatre Wing, established in 1990, has been organizing annual Summer Theatre Camps, Spring Theatre Workshops, and Winter Theatre Workshops, providing a platform for children to nurture their artistic talents. The summer vacations serve as an exclusive time for children to engage, explore, and enhance their personalities through the transformative power of theatre. Natrang has successfully shaped the personalities of numerous children by harnessing the potential of this captivating art form.
The participants of Natrang's Theatre Camp-2023 will embark on an enriching journey to create a full-length play, which will be showcased before larger audiences. This annual tradition allows the audience to witness a remarkable children's production, resulting from the summer theatre camp. The training module, crafted by Padmashri Balwant Thakur, has propelled the children's theatre of Jammu to national recognition. His renowned productions, such as 'Mere Hisse Ki Dhoop Kahan Hai,' 'Aap Hamare Hain Kaun,' 'Hum Hain Na,' and 'Udaan,' are considered milestones in children's theatre across India. The workshop will focus on developing communication skills, public speaking, and confidence-building through innovative theatre techniques.
The workshop incorporates the expertise of Sumeet Sharma, recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi's National Award for Theatre Direction, who has dedicated over 20 years to working with children. His skill development techniques have proven highly successful in imparting the benefits of theatre to young minds. The workshop module continues to evolve with the creative inputs from Suraj Singh, Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant, Sanjeev Gupta, and Aarushi Thakur Rana, esteemed members of Natrang. The children will receive guidance from experienced professionals in the field, and the camp will also introduce elements of digital arts, cartooning, yoga, visual arts, and dance.
