After teenage girl, auto driver found dead in Katra hotel
Victim’s family alleges murder, seeks justice
6/6/2023 11:33:37 PM
Early Times Report

Katra, June 6: Nearly two months after a teenage girl was found dead in a hotel in Katra, an auto driver’s body was recovered under mysterious circumstances from another hotel in the town on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Prem Chand son of Baldev Raj of Karmal had left his home around 4 pm on Monday and had spoken to his wife over phone for the last time around 6 pm.
Talking to reporters, family members of the deceased said, “He didn’t pick up the phone after 6pm despite us making repeated calls.”
They said, “We received a call from the police at around 3am with a direction to reach the hospital immediately. There we were told that he is dead.”
According to Police, Prem Chand was found dead in a hotel. Investigations are on and a postmortem report is awaited.
Chand’s wife said, “We want justice. He was the lone bread earner of our family comprising ailing mother, father and a 2-year old son. He had no enmity with anyone. He was a daily wager and used to earn his livelihood by driving an auto.”
“Police should investigate who killed him and bring the murderers to justice. His body bore the marks,” she added.
Chand’s ailing mother said, “His death has shattered our entire family. Myself and his father are patients. He has left behind a widow and his 2-year old child.”
It’s in place to mention here that an eighteen year old girl was found hanging inside a hotel in Katra, where she was working, on April 9, 2023. Police had stated that the victim had committed a suicide.
However, the victim’s father Basant Lal contested the Police claim alleging that attempts were being made to pass on the murder of his daughter as suicide. He has filed a petition in the High Court to seek a CBI probe into his daughter’s death.
Questions were raised over the “shoddy investigations” carried out by the Katra Police as the hotel room in which was found dead was not sealed and a postmortem report didn’t come for more than a month.
Recently father of the victim threatened to commit suicide if her daughter;s case was not handed over to the CBI for probe.
