IT tour to IIT Roorkee: Empowering students with knowledge and inspiration

JAMMU, June 9: The Department of Computer Science & IT at Bhaderwah Campus organized a week-long IT tour for the students to IIT Roorkee. The tour was conducted in collaboration with iHUB, Divyasampark IIT Roorkee. Dr. Jatinder Manhas, I/C Head of Computer Science at Bhaderwah Campus, accompanied the students and made the necessary arrangements for the trip, along with Dr. Manish, CEO of iHUB, Divya Sampark, IIT Roorkee.
During the tour, Dr. Jatinder Manhas expressed gratitude for the proactive support received from Dr. Manish Anand and his team, including Prateek Sharma and Lalita. He acknowledged their assistance in managing the tour and their agreement to set up an advanced lab at Bhaderwah Campus focusing on drone technology, IoT, and AR/VR technology under the iHUB Divyasampark, IIT Roorkee banner.
Dr. Jatinder Manhas also highlighted the significant support of Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, Prof. Rahul Gupta, in the success of the tour. He commended the Rector's constant motivation and support for all the campus employees. Additionally, he recognized the role played by Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, in encouraging interdisciplinary research within the department.
The tour included 16 students, Dr. Jatinder Manhas, and Ms. Ayushi Kotwal from the Department of CS and IT, Bhaderwah Campus. The group had the opportunity to interact with members of Dtown Robotics Private Limited, a startup specializing in drone and robot manufacturing. The students learned about drone applications and had hands-on experience flying drones on a simulator. They also visited the robotics lab of iHUB, Divyasampark, located at the Noida Campus of IIT Roorkee. There, they gained insights into robot creation and the practical applications of walking robots.
Dr. Manish Anand shared valuable information about research opportunities, scholarships, and state-of-the-art technologies such as blockchain, cybersecurity, IoT, and drones. The students also had the privilege of interacting with Dr. Partha Pratim Roy from the CSE Department at IIT Roorkee. Dr. Roy shared his extensive research experience and introduced the students to his research scholars, inspiring them to cultivate a research-oriented mindset.
The students further explored the Fermicron lab in the Department of CSE, which focuses on developing drones for farmers as part of a startup project. This exposure motivated the students to contemplate their own entrepreneurial ventures. Before concluding the tour, the students and participants took a comprehensive tour of the main campus of IIT Roorkee, visiting important sites.
