Security beefed up after perfume bomb threat
7/2/2023 11:00:07 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 2: Even as the Jammu and Kashmir Police on July 1 recovered perfume bombs from a Lashkar terror associate in Srinagar, the security for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has been heightened even further.
The terror associate, Yasir Ahmed Ittoo carrying four perfume bombs was caught from Batamaloo Bus stand. It’s for the first time that such bombs have recovered from Kashmir that too from the summer capital of Srinagar. The police said “One terror associate of LeT namely Yasir Ahmed Ittoo S/o Ab Rashid Ittoo R/o Gulshanabad, Qaimoh arrested with 4 perfume IEDs from Batmaloo Bus Stand. FIR No 77/2023 under sections 3/5 of Explosive Substances act, 7/25 of IA Act & 13,23 of ULAP Act registered in Batmaloo PS.”
The recovery set the alarm bells ringing about the Yatra security. “It’s for the first time that the perfume bombs have been recovered from Kashmir that too from the city, so things cannot be taken lightly. Though otherwise also forces have been on alert, the security bandobast is being further strengthened(for Yatra),” said an official on the condition of anonymity.
It’s the second such recovery of perfume bombs in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier on February 2, the JK Police had recovered a perfume bottle bomb from a school teacher in Jammu.
That time police had arrested Arif, a resident of J&K's Reasi district, while investigating the twin blasts that rocked the Narwal area of Jammu in which nine people were injured on January 21. Police claimed that Arif had admitted to his role in the attack on a bus carrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims in which four people were killed in May 2022.
The Jammu and Kashmir police chief had said it was the first time that such type of a bomb was recovered in the Union Territory.
“This is the first time we have recovered a perfume IED. We have not recovered any perfume IED before. The IED will blast if anyone tries to press or open it. Our special team will handle that IED,” the police had said.
Official sources said high level team is probing the similar recovery made in Srinagar.
