Early Times Report

Jammu, July 16: After successfully seizing the properties of about a dozen drug smugglers in different parts of Kashmir, police have prepared a list of over 1000 notorious drug traffickers across Jammu and Kashmir whose properties are likely to be attached in a phased manner.
Highly placed sources told the Early Times that the Union Territory administration is going to launch a big offensive against the drug mafia to dismantle the ecosystem of narco-terrorism.
“Successfully seizing properties of some dreaded drug lords in Kashmir Valley has boosted the morale of J&K Police. Now authorities are preparing a list of notorious drug lords who have been involved in smuggling drugs”, sources said, adding, “Initially over 1000 notorious drug smugglers have been identified by the agencies who are actively participating in smuggling drugs”.
In February this year, Jammu and Kashmir Police froze the bank accounts of notorious narcotic smugglers and seized vehicles and gold items.
As narco-terrorism from Pakistan has emerged as a big challenge for the government in the Valley, Jammu, and Kashmir Police had earlier announced that it will attach properties of those involved in drug trafficking under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
On June 29, Jammu and Kashmir Police had attached properties worth lakhs of rupees belonging to drug smugglers in Baramulla district.
The police had attached an under-construction house on land measuring 10 marlas at Main Mohalla Pattan belonging to Barakat Ali Main, after obtaining legal sanction from the competent authorities.
Similarly, the police attached a Hyundai i10 car belonging to Abdul Rehman Malik, a resident of Kalantra Payeen, after obtaining legal sanction from the competent authorities.
The vehicle was used for drug trafficking.
