Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 6: Resignations of former minister and two-time MLA from Samba Yashpal Kundal and District Development Council (DDC) member from Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony along with some other leaders led to the shutting down of Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) shutter in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Rocked by the resignations of all mass-based leaders after repeated intervals, AAP’s balloon busted in this part of the country very much like Himachal Pradesh where the party performed very poorly in recently held assembly polls.
After the resignations of Harsh Dev Singh and Balwant Singh Mankotia, Kundal, and Tony were the only leaders with some mass base were left the party but now the duo too have resigned from the AAP.
Sources said that instead of taking some effective steps to strengthen the party in J&K, AAP leadership tried to befool those who joined the party.
A three-time MLA and former Education Minister Harsh Dev Singh in February this year announced his decision to quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revive the Panthers Party, a regional political party in Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh declared his intent to revive the Panthers Party, which was originally formed by Prof. Bhim Singh in 1982.
Harsh Dev Singh had joined AAP with much fanfare on May 8, 2022, in New Delhi in the presence of party leader Sanjay Singh.
On September 23, 2022, AAP terminated Balwant Singh Mankotia, a two-time MLA from Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia from the primary membership of the party. Mankotia was expelled on the charges of hobnobbing with other political parties and defaming the party.
Balwant Singh Mankotia along with Yash Paul Kundal had joined the AAP in New Delhi on April 10, 2022.
Sources said that Delhi’s infamous Excise scam has badly dented the image of AAP in J&K. Two senior leaders and ex-ministers of the Delhi Government including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s right-hand man Manish Sisodia are already in jail due to his scam.
