GDC Ramgarh organizes extension lecture, free medical camp

JAMMU, Aug 11: In continuation to Series of activities being organized on the eve of Independence Day, IQAC and NSS of Government Degree College Ramgarh organized an Extension Lecture on 'Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act' and a free medical camp under the banner of 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' and the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. The programmes were organized under the supervision and leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
Speaking on the occasion Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra emphasized the need and importance of awareness programs, especially among the college students against the use of narcotics. She also spoke on the importance of awareness programs that help a person to get rid of bad habits and awareness regarding NDPS Act that prohibits the use of drugs. Further, she added that the initiative of free medical camp aims to provide comprehensive medical screening services for health care needs.
The Resource Person Prof. Mohammad Rafi, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, GDC Purmandal, said that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act), 1985 was passed with the intent of controlling drug abuse and prohibiting the use, distribution, manufacture, trade of drugs and mentioned that under NDPS Act, abetment, criminal conspiracy and even attempts to commit an offence attract the same punishment as the offence itself.
Also, a free Medical camp was organized for the Students of the college as well as the females from the nearby area for Screening, Prevention and Treatment of Anaemia under the theme of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' in collaboration with Health and Medical Department, Directorate of AYUSH, J&K to mark 'Disease free India, Healthy India'. Dr. Ranju Bharn, AHWC, Koulpur; Dr. Rozy, AHWC, Gho Brahmana; Dr. Sonia, AHWC, Moutlian were present from the Ministry of AYUSH. Dr. Ranju Bharn coordinated the Medical Camp and free medicines were also distributed among the students.
