'Nasha Mukt Bharat': GDC Ramnagar organises symposium

JAMMU, Aug 11: Govt. Degree College Ramnagar, Cultural, Debate & Symposium committee in collaboration with NCORD and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), GDC Ramnagar had conducted a one-day programme on the theme "Fighting Drug Menace: A collective Responsibility" as the part of "Meri Matti, Mera Desh" programme initiated by the District Administration, Udhampur.
The symposium aimed to address the scourge of drug abuse that has casted a dark shadow over societies worldwide, transcending borders, cultures, and demographics.
The programme was commenced by Principal, Dr. Bhavnaish Chand by sharing his views on drug menace prevailing in the world. He emphasised on collaboration between authorities, NGOs, and rehabilitation centres is essential for eradication of drug menace. Rather than focusing solely on punitive measures, a multifaceted approach involving prevention, treatment, and recovery should be embraced. A total of 10 students participated in the symposium. Monalika Sharma, B.A. Sem - 5 stands first in the debate competition followed by Ankush Kalotra, B.Sc. Sem-5. More than 100 students attended the programme.
Prof. Swarna Bhougal, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed and Prof. Shobha Rani acted as the judges for the event. The whole proceedings were initiated by Dr. Monica Thakur followed by Tanvi Sharma, student of B.Sc. Sem 5 of the college. The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Bhavnaish Chand, Principal GDC Ramnagar, who applauded the organisers of the seminar for taking such initiative. Finally, the session concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed, HOD BBA who concluded the event by advising that by working together, individuals, communities, organizations, and governments can reclaim lives from the clutches of addiction and build a safer, healthier future for all.
The organising members of the event were Dr. Monica (Convenor, Cultural and Debate & Symposium Committee), Dr. Om Parkash (HOD Sanskrit), Dr. Mohd. Riaz (Convenor, Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan), Prof. Ritika Mahajan (Convenor, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, NSS PO), Dr. Divya Puri (HOD, Psychology), Dr. Rashmi Gupta (Faculty, Physics), Prof. Anice Ahmed (HOD English) and Dr. Sonam Gandotra (Faculty, Computer Applications). Following committee members were also present in the meeting Prof. Suresh Sharma (HOD, Physics), Prof. Harmeet Kour (HOD, Botany), Prof. Brinder Kumar (HOD, Zoology), Prof. Aditya Sharma (HOD, Computer Applications) and Prof. Naveed Hassan (HOD, Geology). At the end, mementos were distributed among the winners by the Principal of the College in presence of the staff members.
