HIRANAGAR, Aug 17: A heartfelt tribute to India's freedom fighters and a celebration of 77 years of independence culminated with a resounding success as the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit Cheshta of G.L.D.M Degree College, Hiranagar concluded its 5-day programme under the banner of "Meri Maati Mera Desh" with the event "Veeron Ka Vandan."
The programme, which commenced on August 11 at the college, unfolded with the Panch Pran pledge. Both students and staff members passionately pledged their dedication to transforming India into a developed nation by 2047. The subsequent days saw a series of impactful events aimed at honoring the nation's heroes and instilling a sense of pride and responsibility among the participants.
On the second day, a vibrant Tiranga (Tricolor) rally resonated from GDC Hiranagar to the 121 BN CRPF Camp, symbolizing unity and patriotism. Emphasizing environmental consciousness, NSS volunteers actively participated in the "Vasudha Vandhan" campaign by planting 100 saplings of indigenous trees.
Throughout the 5-day journey, the college brimmed with activity. "Maati Ko Naman," a respectful tribute to the soil, was followed by intellectually stimulating competitions such as quizzes, singing, speeches, and essay writing, which engaged NSS volunteers fervently.
The culminating event, "Veeron Ka Vandan," held today, was the highlight of the programme. It was a poignant and heartfelt effort to honor the sacrifice of brave freedom fighters and soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. The families of defense security personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice were felicitated, adding a deeply emotional and respectful touch to the proceedings.

Dr. Khanna underlined the role of freedom fighters in shaping the nation's destiny and urged students to contribute positively to the country's growth while emphasizing unity and solidarity.
Prof. Rakesh Sharma, NSS Advisor, paid tribute to the valorous souls who gave their lives for the nation's cause. The occasion was also marked by the release of the Quality Report (Newsletter) of the college, a testament to its commitment to excellence.
NSS Programme Officer Prof. Ajay Sharma orchestrated this impactful 5-day programme with the unwavering support of NSS Committee members. The grand event saw mesmerizing cultural performances centered around the theme of patriotism, skillfully presented by the NSS volunteers of the college.
