Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 17: The Vice President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Omar Abdullah, affirmed that the endeavors to erase the name and legacy of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah have consistently been thwarted by the people of J&K. Speaking at a party event held at Nawa E Subah, Omar stated, “Our adversaries have consistently attempted to remove the plough flag from J&K, but there’s something that, despite their persistent efforts, our party stands unwavering, and even today, people are eager to connect with this organization. The symbol of the plough and the name of Sheikh Sahib are etched forever in the hearts of the people. Our party has weathered the toughest of times with the unwavering support of our people, who have democratically defeated such nefarious conspiracies at the ballot box.”
During the event, he warmly welcomed approximately 150 young political and social workers from Duroo Shahabad, affiliated with Apni Party, into the J&K National Conference. Notable personalities who joined included District President Anantnag Youth Apni Party Anees ul Islam and District Anantnag Coordinator Muzaffar Ah Khan. The event was organized by JKNC District President Anantnag Altaf Ahmad Wani and Incharge Dooru Syed Tawqeer Ahmed. The event was attended by Party General Secretary Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, State Secretary Sakina Itoo, MP Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi, South Zone President Dr. Bashir Veeri, district presidents, and In-Charge Constituencies. Omar emphasized that the truth cannot be suppressed and ultimately resurfaces.
He pointed out that despite the BJP’s efforts to tarnish Sheikh Sahib’s reputation and erase his name from people’s hearts, the truth emerges in various forms. He cited the recent praise by Chief Justice of India for Sheikh Sahib’s foresight, vision, and economic integration perspective during Article 370 hearings.
He reaffirmed the National Conference’s commitment to the trust placed in it by the people, asserting that the party doesn’t deceive or mislead. He also discussed the party’s strategic decision to approach issues through democratic and constitutional means rather than street protests.
Omar commended the efforts in the Supreme Court to restore Article 370’s special status. Omar concluded by expressing hope for the restoration of dignity and rightful place for Jammu and Kashmir, noting the change in tone among leaders who had previously opposed Article 370’s return.
The event was attended by several senior leaders and party members, showcasing the support and unity within the National Conference.
