Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 23: As toll tax and installation of pre-paid smart meters snowballed into big issues in Jammu province, BJP corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) urged the party leadership to solve these issues immediately to face elections of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
Highly placed sources said that during the meeting of the JMC corporators issue of the Sarore toll plaza and the decision of the UT administration to install pre-paid smart meters dominated the discussions. Sources said that some corporators pointed out that opposition parties, especially Congress, have successfully created a narrative in the Jammu region that the UT administration is pursuing anti-people policies.
Sources said that while giving feedback about the situation prevailing on the ground some corporators cautioned that there was strong anger against the party on the issue of prepaid smart meters and Sarore toll plaza.
“Some corporators narrated some incidents of how they faced anger from the people in their areas on these issues”, sources said, and all the elected members demanded that a solution of these issues was a must to face elections.
Sources said that some party leaders cautioned that Congress leaders are trying to encash prevailing anger among the people which would prove disastrous for the party in the forthcoming ULB elections.
Meanwhile, according to an official handout issued by the party, BJP president Ravinder Raina, General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Koul, former Dy. CM Kavinder Gupta, General Secretaries Adv. Vibodh Gupta, Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, Mayor Rajinder Sharma, and the Deputy Mayor also addressed the meeting.
Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Councillors, BJP District Presidents, and Mandal Presidents participated in the meeting.
