Kathua Police seizes illicit liquor; 01 arrested

Kathua, Nov 18: In a proactive move against the production and consumption of illegal liquor in the district, the Kathua Police conducted a successful operation resulting in the seizure of approximately 09 liters of illicit liquor. The operation took place in the Chak Drab Khan area of the Kathua Police Station, where one individual, identified as Sunita Devi, wife of Late Ashok Kumar and resident of Kullian Chak Drab Khan, was apprehended.
The police received credible information about illegal liquor trading in the Chak Drab Khan area near Khad. Acting swiftly on this information, a police team led by Inspector Ajay Singh Chib, the Station House Officer (SHO) of PS Kathua, conducted a special checking operation. During the operation, Sunita Devi was found engaged in the illegal trade of selling illicit liquor for unlawful profit.
Upon physical inspection, the police recovered approximately 09 liters of illicit liquor from Sunita Devi’s possession. The entire consignment of illegal liquor was seized, and Sunita Devi was subsequently arrested. A case has been registered against her under FIR No. 487/2023 U/S 48(A) of the Excise Act at PS Kathua. The investigation into the matter is underway.
This decisive action by the Kathua Police reflects their commitment to curbing the menace of illegal liquor trade, promoting public safety, and upholding the law.
